Madame Simone, Issue #18, Now In English!

Bacchus Editions is very pleased to announce that the french magazine, Madame Simone is now appearing in English for the first time, with Issue #18 officially entering production, joining the growing Bacchus constellation of journals, books, translations, and peculiar printed worlds moving just outside the usual literary machinery.

Madame Simone is the personal magazine of Madame Simone herself: unapologetically egoïste, sharply feminine, indulgent, seductive, socially exhausted, highly perceptive, occasionally vicious, frequently hilarious, and entirely uninterested in behaving like a morally improving figure for the age.

The magazine moves through glamour, appetite, erotic pacing, cultivated refusal, private irritations, emotional evasions, style, beauty, fatigue, desire, and the psychological atmosphere of contemporary life with wit sharp enough to draw blood through silk gloves. Nothing here is academic. Nothing arrives packaged as self-help, ideology, therapeutic redemption, or social instruction. The magazine instead follows instinct, mood, taste, vanity, intelligence, boredom, flirtation, and selective disappearance wherever they happen to lead.

Alongside essays and longer writings appear recurring sections including cancelled invitations, impossible recommendations, diary outtakes, classified absurdities, private notices, a reader bulletin board, and elegant little catastrophes that somehow become funnier the worse they are.

The result is less a magazine than an entire atmosphere: decadent, playful, sensual, stylish, psychologically acute, and gloriously unconcerned with moral usefulness.

Certain readers will recognize traces of Stirnerian sensuality, Dionysian individualism, literary decadence, sovereign appetite, aesthetic cruelty, and the refined coldness of a woman who survived illusion without becoming bitter or smaller from it.

The first seventeen issues remain out of print and unavailable in English. Issue #18 marks the first official English appearance of Madame Simone, now through Bacchus Editions, released in limited physical form only. Once copies vanish, they vanish.
