About Bacchus Editions
Bacchus Editions is a private publishing house devoted to writing, translation, bookmaking, and the patient craft of bringing books into the world. We publish original works, new translations, critical editions, restored texts, journals, pamphlets, broadsides, and whatever other forms a project happens to require. Every edition begins in the same place: with the conviction that it ought to exist.
Some of these books begin with us. Others arrive from another language, another century, a forgotten periodical, a private archive, or a deteriorating pamphlet that somehow escaped disappearance. We do not recover these works out of nostalgia or historical obligation. A work is not exhausted by time, nor diminished by neglect. We return to these books because they continue to think, to disturb, to delight, and to provoke beyond the historical moments that first produced them. We publish them because they remain capable of doing something to us.
Our own books are not written to occupy a place within an existing conversation. They are attempts to begin conversations that do not yet exist. We make the books we wish already existed. When they do not, we build them ourselves.
The press is financed privately and built deliberately, one edition at a time. Writing, translation, editing, typesetting, printing, binding, packing, and correspondence remain inseparable parts of the same practice. Books appear when they are ready, rather than when a publishing calendar demands them. If an order or a reply occasionally takes a little longer than expected, it is because the same hands that wrote, translated, edited, printed, and bound the books are also wrapping them for the post. Merci for your patience.
Nothing arrives here by virtue of category, reputation, or historical importance. Every book earns its place through its own nécessité intérieure. Schools, orthodoxies, manifestos, and literary movements are of no interest to us as identities to inhabit. We are drawn instead to works that think for themselves and refuse domestication.
Our catalogue includes anarchist writing, surrealism, expressionism, Dada, anti-civilization critique, literary experiment, philosophy, translations, recovered texts, and the work of singular iconoclasts. None is included because of its tradition. Every title belongs here because it possesses its own irreducible necessity and remains unmistakably itself.
BacchusEditions continues to grow slowly: more books, more projects, more tools, and, from time to time, more hands. Perhaps you'll find something here worth carrying home.

Publishing / Stocking Inquiries
There is no submission process, no open call, and no formal route into the catalogue. Books are chosen one by one through conversation, correspondence, friendship, long acquaintance, or simple recognition. What belongs here rarely requires explanation. It is usually apparent almost immediately.
Bacchus is uninterested in ideological performance, identity reduced to program, moral instruction, or language written in search of approval. We have little patience for writing that arrives already resolved, already justified, or already obedient. What draws us instead is singularity: work that thinks for itself, resists domestication, and carries its own atmosphere, tension, and interior life.
Agreement has never been a prerequisite. Neither has shared doctrine, stable metaphysical orientation, or philosophical consistency. Bacchus remains interested in the possibility of genuine affinity across profoundly different sensibilities, orientations, et metaphysical terrains. We are discerning, certainly, but never doctrinally sealed.
If your work belongs here, it will probably already feel that way. Write to us.
From time to time we also carry the work of other publishers and friends whose books we genuinely admire. We are always happy to exchange books, ideas, and the occasional project. We prefer relationships to systems, correspondence to distribution networks, and conversation to commerce. When there is a good reason to place books in one another's hands, we'll usually find a way. Bacchus is simply not organized around wholesale, trade distribution, or commercial partnerships.

Contributing to Journals and Anthologies
Some Bacchus Editions journals, anthologies, and related projects welcome contributions, though rarely in a conventional sense. There is no universal submission period or editorial calendar. Each project develops according to its own temperament, and invitations or openings are announced individually when they exist.
We are interested in writing that provokes, unsettles, seduces, or unexpectedly changes direction. Essays, fragments, translations, correspondence, détournements, notes toward impossible books, unfinished thoughts that nevertheless insist upon existing. Form matters less than vitality.
As elsewhere throughout the catalogue, we are uninterested in political posturing, therapeutic confession, ideological performance, religious instruction, or language that arrives already explained, already justified, or already obedient. We are looking instead for writing that thinks for itself, resists capture, and carries its own atmosphere.
If something genuinely belongs with a particular journal, anthology, or project, write to us. Tell us what it is, or simply let the work speak. If it resonates, we'll continue the conversation. If it does not, silence is usually our answer.

On scale, cost, circulation
Bacchus Editions exists outside the economies that make mass circulation inexpensive. There are no institutional sponsors, production quotas, distribution networks or large commercial infrastructures quietly carrying the work forward. Every edition emerges through a comparatively tiny constellation of people and an equally modest press shop infrastructure.
The press is not separate from ordinary life but woven directly into it. Writing, translation, research, restoration, editing, typesetting, printing, binding, correspondence, packing, repairing machines, and countless other ordinary labors belong to the same fabric. Bacchus is sustained less by publishing economies than by the broader economies of friendship, reciprocity, shared meals, seasonal work, and lives lived closely enough that books can still be made this way.
For that reason our editions occasionally cost more than books produced through larger commercial systems. This is not a gesture toward exclusivity nor an attempt to manufacture rarity. It is simply what independent publishing looks like at this scale, where autonomy matters more than volume and where the material life of the book remains inseparable from the people making it.
The press will remain deliberately intimate—not because it cannot become larger, but because there is a certain pleasure in keeping the work close to the hands and minds creating it. Growth comes through friendships, collaborations, and new projects rather than expansion for its own sake.
Books continue to travel much as they always have: through correspondence, exchanges, conversations, recommendations, chance encounters, and the enthusiasm of people placing them into one another's hands.
Bacchus Editions is not a commercial press. The books are made in our own time, financed from our own pockets, and published because we know they ought to exist. They appear when they are ready, rather than when a schedule demands them. Orders, correspondence, and new editions may occasionally move a little slowly. Merci for your patience with the human scale of it all.
